Just a quick question....When one has a Virus captured in the Vault.....do you delete it or empty the vault. I have never had this before and don't want to do the wrong thing and screw up something. I have AVG. if that matters.

You can leave it a while if you want . Check the path and see where it was in the computer. You can post a screenshot or just tell us what it says if you want. We can check it out for you.

I have never used AVG as it never worked on my computer so maybe someone can tell you that. It is in the temp files, so might as well get rid of it.

This is what Ross told me to do when it happened.I also have AVG.

DUMPING VIRUS VAULT AVG

Delete everything from the vault.

Shut down the System Restore then restart it to clear it out.

Once restarted create a new restore point.

Hope this helps you Bunny.

Bunny, there are no "dumb questions"..........ever~!!! I have asked Ross this very question before. As per his instruction's I do the "delete system restore" thing and then turn it back on. It will ask you ........are you sure you want to do this.........it gets quite bossy but yes you do want to do it. How do we learn if we don't ask???
When I got my very first computer (used from my son) I zapped my mouse with static electricity but he was on vacation where there was no cell service (how dare he).........so I went out and bought a new mouse. The guy asked what kind of connection I had.......I looked at him as if he asked me how to built a rocket ship. I finally found the right one but little did I know that all I had to do was unplug my mouse and plug it back in. So we are always learning~!!

If not 100% sure, with any virus program places baddies in quarantine, and I suggest one set theirs up to do that, leave it in there for a bit. If no adverse effects are experienced with the machine after a couple of days go ahead and delete the contents of the quarantine, Go into your control area and uncheck the restore option, reboot you system, open control area recheck the restore option, open accessories and systems tools and restore, make a new restore point. You now are back in business with the baddies having gone bye bye.

Thanks
Wildman

What exactly do you mean by going to my control area to uncheck the restore option? I can go to my accessories/system tools/restore and make a new restore point, but I don't quite follow and/or find where the "restore option" box is. I must be missing something in the translation.

Thanks Mike that's what I thought it was, but my box was unchecked already and it threw me off when the verbal instruction was to uncheck the box. I'm a visual sorta guy, that tut is great and just my speed. ;-) I'm headed over to Fry's (at my wife's request even) so I'll give it a go when I get back.

And NO, she doesn't want to go to Fry's for my benefit, it's to look at some hand vacuum sweepers for herself. But, don't matter duz it, I get to go to Fry's. YEEHAW.

It worked. Now I have a new restore point with no virus' in the quarantine vault. I also deleted my multiple users and created yet another restore point today without the excess users. One thing I did that I didn't do before when working with restore points it write a bit to explain the importance of that point. This time I named the first one "deleted virus'" and the other one "deleted users". So I will now remember what the significance of these points were.

I've been rather busy and preoccupied with other priorities over the past couple years and have neglected my computer knowledge growth. I am hoping to expand my knowledge more now that I have more free time and even more hopefully, will remember what I learn.(my mind sometimes works way too much like a sieve)
